Opening of Classes
Palo, Leyte - The Department of Education’s (DepEd) regional office has expressed confidence that Eastern Visayas is ready for the opening of classes this June despite the perennial problem of shortages in classrooms and textbooks. Dr. Rebecca Ragrag, DepEd regional information officer, said that while local government units and even some non-government organizations provide help to some schools by donating funds for additional buildings, school heads have also found ways to continue to hold classes. Ragrag added that this is also true to schools in Samar which have been hit by floods early this year. "Our dedication to our job tells us that we cannot wait for national funding or any help from outside because they are often hard to rely on. All over the country, there is the need for classrooms and books. So here, we do whatever we can so that we can still cater to the needs of our learners," said Ragrag.
