Lions

The lion is an exception to the usual solitary existence of most cat species. It has developed a social system based on teamwork, division of labor and an extended but closed family unit. The average pride consists of about 15 individuals: 5 to 10 females, their young, and 2 or 3 territorial males. These are usually brothers or pride mates who have formed a coalition to protect their females. Because a nursing lioness will come into heat a few weeks after the loss of cubs, males with newly won prides will often kill existing cubs, enabling them to sire their own. When resting, lions seem to enjoy good fellowship with lots of touching, head rubbing, licking and purring. Litters consist of two or three cubs that weigh about 3 pounds each. Some mothers carefully nurture the young; others may neglect or abandon them, especially when food is scarce. Usually two or more females in a pride give birth about the same time, and the cubs are raised together. A lioness will permit cubs other than her own to suckle, sometimes enabling a neglected infant to survive. Capable hunters by 2 years of age, lions become fully grown between 5 and 6 years and normally live about 13 years.

The Alexandrite

This natural alexandrite faceted gemstone is moderately included. It has an excellent natural color change from a rich green in daylight to a reddish-purple color under incandescent light as shown in the photo at left (it is 100% natural color - this natural alexandrite gem is both unheated and untreated). This shallow cut gem is windowed and faces up looking like a much larger 2 carat alexandrite gemstone with measurements of 8.5mm long x 6.3mm wide! There are faintly visible natural inclusions within it which absolutely guarantee its natural origin (GIA: Type II Gem, Clarity Grade: SI). It was faceted from a natural alexandrite crystal that was mined in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Our mineralminers.com special offer price for this natural alexandrite gem is $1260./carat x 1.13 carats = $1423.80

Natural alexandrites are available in a complete range of colors from brownish to bluish green in daylight to pink, purple, red or brownish red under incandescent light. Compared to natural gemstones, most synthetic alexandrites are somewhat more blue under fluorescent light and strongly red under incandescent light. Large clean and inexpensive stones offered as natural alexandrites are most probably synthetic or not alexandrite at all.

Gemologists study the inclusions to distinguish between natural and synthetic alexandrite. Synthetic stones may also have a lower refractive index and show more fluorescence than natural stones. Natural alexandrites should be purchased from reputable dealers and expensive stones should also be tested and certified by a well established gem lab.

To Love You More

Take me back into the arms I love
Need me like you did before
Touch me once again
And remember when
There was no one that you wanted more

Don’t go you know you will break my heart
She won’t love you like I will
I’m the one who’ll stay
When she walks away
And you know I’ll be standing here still

I’ll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I’m the one who wants to love you more
You will see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

See me as if you never knew
Hold me so you can’t let go
Just believe in me
I will make you see
All the things that your
heart needs to know

I’ll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I’m the one who wants to love you more
You will see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

And some way all the love that
we had can be saved
Whatever it takes we’ll find a way

Believe in me
I will make you see
All the things that your
heart needs to know

I’ll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I’m the one who wants to love you more
Can’t you see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

The Topaz

Topaz is a gemstone of all colors, and its most valuable color is a golden orange-yellow, called "imperial topaz". Topaz is commonly thought of as a sky-blue gem, but it was not until this century that blue topaz became widespread on the gem market. Natural blue topaz with a deep hue is very uncommon in nature; colorless to light hued stones are heat-treated to achieve the blue color. Likewise, topaz rarely occurs naturally in pink; virtually all pink topaz is heat treated from yellow or brownish material.

Topaz of the best known gemstones. Even its name sounds like something exotic and fabulous from The Arabian Nights, or poetic like "silken Samarkand". In fact its name is so popular that most of the owners of a citrine claim to own a topaz! The name is believed to have derived from the Greek work topazos, the ancient name for St. John’s Island in the Red Sea, or from the Sanskrit tapas meaning fire.

The Power of Love

The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes

I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake

(first chorus)
cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
Ill do all that I can

Lost is how Im feeling lying in your arms
When the world outsides too
Much to take
That all ends when Im with you

Even though there may be times
It seems Im far away
Never wonder where I am
cause I am always by your side

(repeat first chorus)

(second chorus)
Were heading for something
Somewhere Ive never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But Im ready to learn
Of the power of love

The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear
Suddenly the feeling that I cant go on
Is light years away

(repeat first chorus)

(repeat second chorus)

One Step Closer

I didn’t really walk away I had something to explain
Trying to reach you night and day when I did not know your name
Shall we promise just to talk and be alone, all alone

Why can’t the voice that said hello at the moment of first sight
Whisper the words I need to know speak to me that way tonight
Let me hear it travel through the restless sky straight from you
Come to me today
Chorus
One step closer forward motion
One step near our destination

How can I bring myself to sleep till I’m resting by your side
Sharing the secrets hard to keep when you live them all through the night
And then wake up with the words I’ll always want you to say
Come to me today

[Chorus:]
A lonely man has come undone
Is it wrong to think I understand where you are as close to me
Not much further to go

Let me hear it travel through the restless sky straight from you
Come to me today

[Chorus]

The Statue of Zeus in Giza

This is the statue of the god in whose honor the Ancient Olympic games were held. It was located on the land that gave its very name to the Olympics. At the time of the games, wars stopped, and athletes came from Asia Minor, Syria, Egypt, and Sicily to celebrate the Olympics and to worship their king of gods: Zeus.

It is on eof the seven wonders of the world. It is the statue of Zeus in Giza. It is located at the ancient Town of Olympia. on the west coast of modern Greece, about 150 km west of Athens.

The ancient Greek calendar starts in 776 BC, for the Olympic games are believed to have started that year. The magnificent temple of Zeus was designed by the architect Libon and was built around 450 BC. Under the growing power of ancient Greece, the simple Doric-style temple seemed too mundane, and modifications were needed. The solution: A majestic statue. The Athenian sculptor Pheidias was assigned for the "sacred" task, reminiscent of Michelangelo’s paintings at the Sistine Chapel.

For the years that followed, the temple attracted visitors and worshippers from all over the world. In the second century BC repairs were skillfully made to the aging statue. In the first century AD, the Roman emperor Caligula attempted to transport the statue to Rome. However, his attempt failed when the scaffolding built by Caligula’s workmen collapsed. After the Olympic games were banned in AD 391 by the emperor Theodosius I as Pagan practices, the temple of Zeus was ordered closed.

Olympia was further struck by earthquakes, landslides and floods, and the temple was damaged by fire in the fifth century AD. Earlier, the statue had been transported by wealthy Greeks to a palace in Constantinople. There, it survived until it was destroyed by a severe fire in AD 462. Today nothing remains at the site of the old temple except rocks and debris, the foundation of the buildings, and fallen columns.

Gold

Gold has been treasured since ancient times for its beauty and permanence.   Most of the gold that is fabricated today goes into the manufacture of jewelry.   However, because of its superior electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion and other desirable combinations of physical and chemical properties, gold also emerged in the late 20th century as an essential industrial metal.  Gold performs critical functions in computers, communications equipment, spacecraft, jet aircraft engines, and a host of other products.  Although gold is important to industry and the arts, it also retains a unique status among all commodities as a long-term store of value.  Until recent times, it was considered essentially a monetary metal, and most of the bullion produced each year went into the vaults of government treasuries or central banks.
